Study of federal land reservations
If enacted, the Interior, Agriculture, and Army Secretaries would have to hire the National Academy of Sciences within 60 days. The NAS would study Federal reservation systems for recreation on Federal land. NAS would consult with the Secretaries and give Congress a report within 18 months of the agreement. The study would review system history and visitor feedback. It would analyze data needs, user demographics, and whether systems block some communities, including international visitors. It would review fees, how revenue is used, and the odds of getting reservations. It would examine data sharing, contractor transparency, new technologies, cyber risks, and ways to reduce no-shows or expand first-come, first-served access. The bill would also define terms like "Federal land", "booking window", "Federal reservation system", "recreational activity", and "Secretaries".
