Show full summary
- Service members, including National Guard and full-time NOAA Commissioned Corps personnel, would have active-duty service treated as "covered active duty" for PSLF. Certain previously deferred or forborne monthly payments tied to that service would count toward qualifying payments.
- Borrowers who complete 10 years of full-time covered active duty during the loan period would get a waiver of an employment requirement in the PSLF rules.
- Borrowers whose public service included covered active duty could receive PSLF under the subsection regardless of when they enrolled in the program.

More loan forgiveness for service members
If enacted, this bill would let more months count toward Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) for borrowers whose public service included covered active-duty service. Months that were deferred or in certain forbearances would count as qualifying PSLF payments. Borrowers could get PSLF even if they enrolled later. The bill would waive a timing rule for borrowers who completed 10 years of full-time covered active-duty service. "Covered active duty" would include active service under 10 U.S.C. 101(d) and full-time duty in the NOAA Commissioned Corps. These changes would take effect upon enactment.
