Extending Anti-Terrorism Protections Act of 2025
Sponsored By: Senator Peters, Gary C. [D-MI]
Introduced
Summary
Temporarily extends SAFETY Act risk‑management protections for qualified anti‑terrorism technologies through fiscal year 2029. It would let the Department of Homeland Security continue those protections for a qualifying technology when a complete renewal application is filed at least 165 days before existing protections expire, would limit the extension to fiscal year 2029, and would preserve the Secretary’s ability to approve or deny the final renewal while not creating new funding or other policy changes.

Short-term SAFETY Act protections for businesses
If enacted, the bill would let the Secretary temporarily extend SAFETY Act risk-management protections for a qualified anti-terrorism technology through fiscal year 2029. You would be able to get a temporary extension only if you filed a complete renewal application at least 165 days before your protection expires. The extension would be temporary and would not stop the Secretary from later approving or denying the renewal. This authority would take effect upon enactment.
