Grants to boost kids' nutrition and activity
This bill would create a Healthy Kids Grant Program run by the CDC and HHS partners. It would award 5-year competitive grants to nonprofits, universities, or consortia. Grants would train early care and education providers and link programs to nutrition supports. They would also test ways to promote healthy eating, physical activity, staff wellness, and family engagement. The bill would authorize $5 million each year for 2026–2030 and an extra $1.7 million in 2026 for tracking State progress. Before awarding grants, CDC would hire an outside evaluator and must report results to Congress within one year after programs finish. Grant partners would need to serve racially, socioeconomically, and geographically diverse populations, including rural and urban settings.
