AI pilot to improve product safety
If enacted, the bill would require the Consumer Product Safety Commission to start an AI pilot within one year. The pilot would use AI for at least one purpose: track injury trends, find product hazards, monitor retail and internet sites for recalled items, or flag goods to refuse at the U.S. border under section 17(a). The CPSC would consult technologists, AI and ML experts, cybersecurity experts, retailers, manufacturers, and safety organizations. The pilot must follow section 6 of the Consumer Product Safety Act. The CPSC would submit a report to the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee and publish the findings on its website within one year after the pilot ends.
