Bill Overview
Analyzed Economic Effects
2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.
Crime reports for federally funded transit
If enacted, the bill would define which transit systems count as federally funded. A system would count if it gets money under chapter 53 of title 49 or under the Federal Transit Administration heading in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The bill would require the Secretary of Transportation to report crime on those federally funded transit systems to two Congressional committees within 90 days after enactment and then every year by January 1. The reports would separate violent and nonviolent crime and use data transit agencies already send to the National Transit Database.
Federal transit safety task force
If enacted, the bill would require the Federal Transit Administration Administrator to set up a task force on transit safety. The Administrator would chair the group and appoint 12 members: five transit agency leaders (or designees) with geographic diversity, three law enforcement representatives, two transit employee representatives from different agencies, and two national transit association representatives. The task force would follow the Federal Advisory Committee Act and send an interim report within 1 year and a final report within 2 years with recommendations to improve transit safety.
