Federal Government Spectrum Inventory Act
Sponsored By: Senator Blackburn, Marsha [R-TN]
Introduced
Summary
An annual public inventory of Federal spectrum use across 225 megahertz to 50 gigahertz. The bill would require the National Telecommunications and Information Administration to produce the first Federal Government Spectrum Use Report within 180 days of enactment and then every year. Each report would include the U.S. Table of Frequency Allocations excerpt with relevant footnotes, a table of the number and type of frequency assignments NTIA has authorized, summaries of major systems and applications in each band, and descriptions of potential future uses. Non-classified portions must be posted on NTIA's public website and a classified annex would hold sensitive material.
Show full summary
- Federal agencies: Their spectrum holdings in the covered bands would be summarized in one annual report, showing major systems and NTIA-authorized assignments.
- Industry and researchers: Public access to standardized allocation and assignment data on NTIA's website would help planning and coordination.
- Policymakers and oversight bodies: The named Federal Government Spectrum Use Report would create a single consistent annual resource for spectrum policy and oversight.
