Surface Transportation Weather Safety Gap Analysis Act of 2025
Sponsored By: Senator Sheehy, Tim [R-MT]
Introduced
Summary
Identify gaps in surface transportation safety tied to weather hazards. This bill would require the Comptroller General and the Secretary of Transportation to conduct a joint study of weather-related hazards and where those hazards create safety gaps for roads, bridges, transit, and travelers. The study must evaluate eight specific areas, including federal programs and grants, state, local, and Tribal integration of weather data with traffic management, closure and evacuation roles, IT resource constraints, cost-benefit estimates, privacy considerations, best practices, and any legislative or administrative recommendations. A joint report is due to the relevant House and Senate committees within two years.
