  • Energy companies and traders: would be able to use an expedited application and approval process under the Natural Gas Act, which is intended to speed cross-border export and import transactions.
  • Workers and local economies: the bill includes a finding that expanding exports will spur investment in domestic natural gas supplies and contribute to job growth and economic development.
  • Foreign policy and national security: countries subject to U.S. sanctions are excluded from the expedited process and the President or Congress can designate other nations for exclusion on national security grounds. The bill also permits exports to Canada and Mexico without an order under the act.

Faster natural gas export approvals for businesses

If enacted, this bill would create an expedited approval track under the Natural Gas Act for most natural gas exports and imports. Countries under U.S. sanctions would be excluded from the expedited track. The President or Congress could also designate other countries to exclude for national security reasons. Exports or imports to Canada and Mexico would not need an order under subsection (a). U.S. exporters and importers would likely get faster federal authorizations. Households could see indirect effects on natural gas prices or supply. These changes would take effect upon enactment.
