Union dues need written consent
If enacted, unions could not use your dues, fees, assessments, or other contributions for activities outside bargaining or contract administration for your unit unless you give written authorization. Unions would have to give you at least 35 days' notice before asking for that written permission. Any authorization would expire no later than one year after signing. Authorizations could not automatically renew.
Union member notices and certifications
If enacted, unions would have to give each member a copy of this Act and short summaries of each title. They would also have to summarize Title VII religious accommodation rights and Beck rights. New employees who join on or after 90 days after enactment would get the information within 30 days. Members who were already enrolled as of that 90-day date would get the information within one year. Unions would provide the disclosures every year. Unions with websites would post a homepage link titled "Union Member Rights and Officer Responsibilities Under the LMRDA." Each covered union would file a signed compliance form with the Secretary of Labor within 180 days, then again within 18 months and annually. The Secretary of Labor would have 180 days after enactment to write rules to implement these changes.
