119-s-3194119th Congress

Monterey Bay National Heritage Area Study Act

Sponsored By: Senator Padilla, Alex [D-CA]

In Committee

Summary

Directs the Interior Secretary to study whether to create a Monterey Bay National Heritage Area. The study would assess suitability and feasibility for lands in Monterey, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, and San Luis Obispo counties and nearby places with similar heritage. It would require consultation with the State of California, Tribal governments, local governments, nonprofit groups, and regional partners including the Monterey Bay Economic Partnership. The bill defines Tribal government by the federal list of recognized tribes and says the study must follow the federal rules that govern National Heritage Area studies.
