Study of Holocaust lessons in schools

This bill would require the Director of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum to run a national study of Holocaust education. The study would start within 180 days of enactment. It would examine all States, a nationally representative sample of local school districts, and a representative sample of public elementary and secondary schools those districts serve. The study would check whether Holocaust education is required or optional, collect State standards and district rules, and summarize how those rules are being put into practice. It would review curriculum-sharing systems, teacher training, museums and cultural centers' roles, instructional materials and time spent, teaching methods (including project based and trauma-informed approaches), and how schools assess students' Holocaust knowledge and students' ability to identify antisemitism, hate, and genocide. The bill would also define key terms used in the study, including what counts as Holocaust education and project based learning. The Director would send Congress a report no later than 180 days after the study finishes or within 3 years of enactment, whichever is earlier.
