Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

Limit sharing of sponsor information

If enacted, the bill would bar HHS from sharing information it obtains about sponsors under the named section with DHS or any other federal agency for immigration enforcement. This would prevent sponsor data collected by HHS from being used to enforce immigration laws against sponsors, children, or guardians.

Lower immigration fees for youth

If enacted, people who are or were found to be unaccompanied alien children would be exempt from many immigration fees. The bill would remove or exempt asylum application and annual asylum fees, employment authorization document fees and some renewals, immigration court fees, the In Absentia Removal Fee, and the Border Apprehension Fee. It would also repeal the Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) application fee and bar DHS from charging SIJ-related fees for applicants, parents, or legal guardians. Within 180 days of enactment, DHS or the Attorney General would have to refund any fees this bill repeals or makes exempt to the person or entity who paid them.
