National Museum of the Blind People’s Movement Act
Sponsored By: Senator Van Hollen, Chris [D-MD]
In Committee
Summary
This bill would designate the Museum of the Blind People's Movement at 200 East Wells Street inside the National Federation of the Blind Jernigan Institute in Baltimore as the National Museum of the Blind People's Movement. It finds that blind Americans have faced systemic discrimination, that the National Federation of the Blind has collected artifacts and literature since its 1940 founding, and that this first museum owned and operated by blind people would preserve that history and provide a national platform to explore the blind experience and promote awareness and equity.
