No federal settlements for January 6 assaulters

If enacted, the bill would bar federal funds from paying legal settlements to people convicted of assaulting law enforcement at the January 6, 2021 Capitol breach. It would define a covered individual to include convictions under 18 U.S.C. section 111 and D.C. Code sec. 22-405. The ban would include funds from the Judgment Fund (31 U.S.C. §1304). It would apply when the settlement is based on harm from the January 6 events or harm from prosecution related to those events. The restriction would take effect upon enactment and would override other laws to the extent of the ban.
