Sponsored By: Senator Padilla, Alex [D-CA]

In Committee

Summary

Transfers about 860 acres of Bureau of Land Management land in Riverside County into trust for the Pechanga Band of Indians. This bill would let the Secretary of the Interior take the identified parcel into trust so it becomes part of the Tribe's reservation and is managed under federal trust rules. The transfer would keep any existing liens, easements, rights‑of‑way, leases, and permits in place. The land must be kept as open space and used to protect archaeological, cultural, and wildlife resources. Utilities or structures are allowed only if they support those protection goals. The land may not be used for class II or class III gaming and existing water rights and service agreements remain unchanged. A map of the covered land would be kept on file at the Bureau of Land Management.
