Stronger FBI hiring and training checks

This bill would require the Justice Department’s Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Management and Compliance, working with the Office of Personnel Management, to audit FBI hiring files for employees hired after the date Public Law 119-21 took effect. It would require cross-checking all FBI hires since January 20, 2025 with State misconduct files, including police and law enforcement employment records, to see whether those records were considered before hiring. It would also require the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers to certify within 180 days after enactment that every FBI agent and officer finished the required training and to say how long each person’s training lasted. These steps would boost oversight and transparency of FBI hiring and training but would not directly change household taxes or benefits.
