Grants to train primary care teams
If enacted, this bill would create a federal grant program to build and expand primary care team education centers. The Secretary would award grants up to $1,000,000 per year for up to 5 years. The bill would authorize $10 million for FY2027, $25 million for FY2028, $50 million for FY2029, and such sums as necessary after. Grants would pay for partnerships with schools and health organizations, address faculty and preceptor shortages, and could include paying preceptor salaries. Grants would also support student clinical training and give housing or transportation help during clinical rotations. The Secretary would give priority to projects that serve regional health worker shortages and increase health professionals from disadvantaged backgrounds. Up to 5% of annual funds could be used for technical assistance. Recipients of these grants would be ineligible for certain other teaching health center grants or payments, and the Secretary would report to Congress each year on grants, students, preceptors, and staffing.
