Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

Three-week extension of surveillance powers

If enacted, this bill would extend the legal authority for intelligence collection under section 702 until May 21, 2026. It would replace the repeal date of April 30, 2026 with May 21, 2026. The extension would take effect on the earlier of the date of enactment or April 29, 2026. This would keep current section 702 surveillance rules in force during that period and mainly affects intelligence agencies and people subject to section 702 collection.

Release court ruling on surveillance

If enacted, this bill would require the Director of National Intelligence, with the Attorney General, to publish the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court's Memorandum Opinion and Order dated March 17, 2026 about section 702. They would be able to redact details needed to protect intelligence sources and methods. The opinion would have to be released as soon as practicable and no later than May 12, 2026. This would increase public access to the court decision and to people affected by section 702 collection.
