Shared IT for wildfire and emergencies
This bill would require the Departments of Agriculture and the Interior to make a joint plan to share IT, cybersecurity, and information systems for wildfire, disaster, and related operations. The plan would be developed with input from firefighters and tribes and would protect Tribal proprietary data and other sensitive information. It would include a phased retirement of siloed legacy IT systems that would not reduce safety or operational capacity, and USDA would update its systems as needed to enable sharing. The agencies would have to follow existing federal IT laws (for example, Subtitle III of Title 40 and Chapter 35 of Title 44), and the plan would have to be implemented within one year of enactment.
