Coast Guard procurement approvals clarified
This bill would change who the statute names for Coast Guard equipment purchases. It would add the Secretary of Homeland Security as an alternate approver. That alternate role would apply only when the Coast Guard is not operating as a service in the Navy. It would also make the Defense Secretary consult with Homeland Security in some Coast Guard sourcing decisions. If enacted, this would shift which agency offices run purchases and would affect contractors and Coast Guard staff.
