Artemis II Congressional Gold Medal Act
Sponsored By: Senator Kelly, Mark [D-AZ]
Introduced
Summary
Honor the Artemis II crew with Congressional Gold Medals. This bill would authorize presentation of a gold medal to each Artemis II astronaut to recognize their record-setting mission. It would direct the Secretary of the Treasury to strike medals that depict the four-astronaut crew, allow the U.S. Mint to create and sell bronze duplicates to cover costs, and permit charging medal production expenses to the United States Mint Public Enterprise Fund with duplicate-sale proceeds returned to that Fund. The bill cites mission milestones including roughly 252,756 miles traveled, the first crewed lunar flight beyond low Earth orbit since Apollo 17, and the first astronaut from outside the United States to travel beyond low Earth orbit and around the Moon.
