119-s-4933119th Congress

Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor Congressional Gold Medal Act

Sponsored By: Senator Heinrich, Martin [D-NM]

Introduced

Summary

Collective Congressional Gold Medal honoring defenders of Bataan, Corregidor, and related Pacific sites who became prisoners of war. This bill would authorize Congress to award a single gold medal to individuals who fought for or with the United States in the Pacific from December 8, 1941 through August 15, 1945 and who became prisoners of war. The Secretary of the Treasury would determine the medal's design. After award, the medal would be placed in the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History for display. The United States Mint could strike and sell bronze duplicates to cover costs and use the Mint Public Enterprise Fund to pay production expenses.
