New USDA Farm and Food Workforce Office
This bill would require the Secretary of Agriculture to create an Office of the Farm and Food System Workforce at USDA within 60 days of enactment. The Office would be led by a Farm and Food System Workforce Coordinator (the first would be the existing Farmworker Coordinator). The Coordinator would hire staff and appoint liaisons to USDA agencies and other federal departments to improve outreach, language access, and program navigation for farm and food system workers. The Office would form a public Advisory Committee with up to 20 members and an Interagency Council of cabinet-level agencies to coordinate services and policy. The Coordinator would send annual reports to the Secretary and to House and Senate Agriculture Committees and post public reports in English, Spanish, and other appropriate languages. The bill would authorize "such sums as are necessary" for each fiscal year 2027 through 2031. The prior Farmworker Coordinator position would end when the Secretary certifies the new Office is established and staffed.
