More time for military survivors' savings
If enacted, you would be able to put military death benefits into a Roth IRA or a Coverdell Education Savings Account up to three years after you get the money. This would apply only to benefits paid under 10 U.S.C. §1477 or 38 U.S.C. §1967. For benefits received on or after the enactment date, the allowed contribution deadline would be three years after the payment date. For benefits received between October 7, 2001 and the date of enactment, you would have until the later of three years after the payment date or one year after enactment to make a contribution.
