Excise tax break for coastal vessels

If enacted, this bill would extend a federal excise-tax exemption to certain vessels that operate on a single U.S. coast. The exemption would apply when a vessel meets the legal description in section 4042(c)(1) and actually trades between Atlantic or Pacific U.S. ports, including territories and possessions. The rule would cover fuel sold for use or used by those vessels for fuel sold or used after December 31, 2025. If passed, owners and operators of qualifying vessels would pay less federal excise tax on that fuel, lowering their operating fuel costs.
