Introduced

Summary

Makes the VET TEC employment measure more transparent and changes how veteran employment is counted. The bill would tighten the program's employment-rate formula and add ongoing participant feedback to improve implementation.

Show full summary
  • Veterans: It would count someone as employed only if they are working 180 days after finishing the VET TEC program. The measure would report full-time, part-time, and self-employment rates when possible.
  • Program participants working for their training provider: Jobs with the same provider or with a parent or affiliate where the participant serves as an instructor for a similar program would be excluded from the employment numerator.
  • Department of Veterans Affairs and the public: The VA Secretary would have to report program operation to both the House and Senate Veterans' Affairs Committees and publish that report. The VA would also collect and analyze ongoing feedback from participants and the GI Bill School Feedback Tool to improve the program.

More reporting for veteran tech training

If enacted, the bill would require the VA Secretary to report VET TEC program results to both the House and Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committees and make the report public. The bill would define the employment rate as program completers during the year who are employed 180 days after completion. Employment by the training provider, its parent, or an affiliate as an instructor in a similar program would be excluded. The Secretary would also, to the maximum extent practicable, report full-time, part-time, and self-employment rates and continually collect participant feedback and GI Bill School Feedback Tool data to improve the program. These steps would not change individual benefit eligibility or provide direct payments.
