Fee waivers for disaster survivors
If enacted, this bill would require the President to waive certain government replacement fees for people whose critical documents were destroyed in a major disaster and who get Individuals and Households Program (section 408) help. The President would consult the Governor of the affected State before waiving fees. The Secretary of State and USCIS would post notices on their websites that these waivers are available. Each of those agencies would report to Congress each year on how many waivers they gave and the cost to the agency. The bill would also clarify that the Presidential fee-waiver duty applies regardless of other triggers.
