MAPLE Act
Sponsored By: Senator Welch, Peter [D-VT]
Introduced
Summary
Adds maple syrup to the Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program's list of eligible foods. The MAPLE Act would allow low-income seniors to use SFMNP coupons or vouchers to buy locally produced maple syrup at farmers' markets, roadside stands, and community supported agriculture programs. It inserts "maple syrup" into the program's statutory list of eligible items alongside fruits, vegetables, herbs, and honey.

Seniors can buy maple syrup
If enacted, you would be able to use your Seniors Farmers' Market Nutrition Program benefits to buy maple syrup. Farmers and market vendors who accept SFMNP could sell maple syrup. This would not change benefit amounts or who qualifies. The change would take effect upon enactment.
