Free credit freezes for children

If enacted, this bill would let a protected consumer's authorized representative ask a consumer reporting agency (CRA) to place a free security freeze on the consumer's credit. The representative would need to send ID, proof of authority, and any other required documents. If the request is made by toll-free phone, secure electronic means, or mail, the CRA you contact would have to place the freeze within 3 business days at no charge. That CRA would also have to notify other CRAs within 3 business days, and each notified CRA would have to place the freeze within 3 business days after getting the notice. These rules would take effect 18 months after enactment.
