Plan to end Lower Sioux corporate charter

If enacted, the bill would accept the Lower Sioux Indian Community’s request to surrender its federal corporate charter. It would revoke the charter ratified on July 17, 1937. The charter was issued under section 17 of the Indian Reorganization Act (25 U.S.C. 5124). This would dissolve the tribal corporation and change the tribe’s corporate legal status, effective upon enactment. Tribal businesses and people with contracts or loans with the tribal corporation would need to follow the tribe’s new legal setup. The bill would not add programs, funding, or other policy changes.
