Train Veterans for Border Patrol Jobs
If enacted, this bill would create a DHS pilot to train and hire transitioning service members as Border Patrol agents. DHS would set up the pilot within 180 days after enactment. The pilot would use the Department of Defense SkillBridge program and the training authorities in 10 U.S.C. 1143. The pilot would end five years after it starts. DHS would report one year after the pilot begins and annually until it ends. Each report would list participant counts and the number of eligible applicants. Reports would also break down participants by members, reserve members, officers, enlisted, veterans, spouses, and dependents. The bill would not authorize new funding beyond existing SkillBridge authorities and interagency coordination.
