Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Retired officers' gun qualification rules

If enacted, this bill would change how retired officers prove firearms qualification. States could let the 12-month qualification window be up to 36 months. It would accept certification from your former agency, the State, another law enforcement agency in the State, or a certified firearms instructor. It would also add magazines to the list of covered items for qualified current and retired officers.

Where qualified officers may carry

If enacted, this bill would let LEOSA-authorized officers carry concealed firearms in school zones and in some low-security federal public facilities. It would add definitions for "civilian public access facility" and "Facility Security Level." It would also say LEOSA is subject to other federal laws and Interior park rules. It would not let LEOSA override rules for common carrier property or property open to the public.
