Tax credit for sustainable ship fuel
This bill would let sustainable vessel fuel qualify for the Section 45Z clean fuel production tax credit. It would create a legal definition of "sustainable vessel fuel": a liquid fuel for commercial vessels or ferries that is not from palm fatty acid distillates or petroleum, has a zero emissions rate under the law, and meets standards the Secretary identifies (for example, ASTM). The change would apply to fuel produced after December 31, 2025. Sustainable vessel fuel would be eligible for the credit through December 31, 2035, while other fuels under Section 45Z still end on December 31, 2027.
