Defund NPR Act
Sponsored By: Senator Banks, Jim [R-IN]
Introduced
Summary
Bans federal funding for National Public Radio. This bill would bar any Federal funds, directly or indirectly, from being provided to National Public Radio or any successor organization. It would also prevent a public broadcast station from using federal funds to pay dues to or purchase programming from NPR. The bill removes references to NPR in the Communications Act to block federal funding channels under that law. The prohibition would take effect immediately on enactment.

Stops federal funding for NPR
If enacted, the bill would ban Federal funds from going to National Public Radio and any successor. It would bar both direct and indirect support. That includes public stations using Federal money to pay dues or buy programming from NPR. The restriction would take effect after the bill becomes law. This could reduce funding and some programming for stations that rely on federal grants.
