Harriet Tubman on $20 Bills
If enacted, the Treasury Secretary would require Harriet Tubman's likeness on all $20 Federal Reserve notes printed after December 31, 2030. The Secretary could delay that date up to two years by submitting a written determination to the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs and the House Committee on Financial Services. To delay, the Secretary would consult the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the Federal Reserve Board, and the United States Secret Service. The Secretary could delay only if issuing the notes after December 31, 2030 would create an unacceptable risk of counterfeiting. The Secretary could also delay if issuing them would harm the safe, secure, or speedy functioning of the U.S. economy. The change would alter bill design and could affect printing, distribution, and cash-handling operations.
