In Committee

Summary

Keeps Regulation F protections for time‑barred debt. This resolution would nullify the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection's rule that withdrew the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (Regulation F) provisions on time‑barred debt and would leave the current Regulation F framework for time‑barred debt in place.

Keep protections for old debts

If enacted, this resolution would block the CFPB rule that withdrew the Regulation F time-barred debt rule (88 Fed. Reg. 26475, May 1, 2023; withdrawal published at 90 Fed. Reg. 20084, May 12, 2025). It would declare that the specified withdrawal has no force or effect. That would preserve the current Regulation F limits on how debt collectors may contact or try to collect very old (time-barred) debts. The change would take effect upon enactment.
