119-sres-219119th Congress

A resolution directing the Senate Legal Counsel to bring a civil action in the name of the United States Senate to enforce the Foreign Emoluments Clause contained in clause 8 of section 9 of article I of the Constitution of the United States.

Sponsored By: Senator Blumenthal, Richard [D-CT]

Introduced

Summary

Enforce the Foreign Emoluments Clause by asking a court to stop the President from accepting foreign gifts, payments, offices, or titles without Congress’s consent. S. Res. 219 would direct the Senate Legal Counsel to file a civil action to enjoin President Donald J. Trump from accepting any present, emolument, office, or title from a foreign state without congressional approval, citing a proposed $2.0 billion stablecoin deal tied to World Liberty Financial and Binance that could give the President and his family hundreds of millions and other arrangements involving Saudi Arabia, Serbia, and Oman that it says undermine public trust.
