A resolution recognizing the 20th anniversary of the Renewable Fuel Standard and its foundational role in strengthening American energy security, supporting rural communities, growing the United States economy, and improving environmental performance.
Sponsored By: Senator Ricketts, Pete [R-NE]
Introduced
Summary
Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) would be honored on its twentieth anniversary as a federal policy to expand domestic renewable fuels, strengthen energy security, support rural economies, and improve environmental performance. The resolution highlights that the RFS sets rising annual volume targets for biodiesel, cellulosic, and advanced fuels and requires lifecycle greenhouse gas reductions of about 20 to 60 percent. It notes private investment that built more than 275 renewable fuel facilities in 36 states producing over 25 billion gallons per year, an industry contribution of roughly $210 billion to GDP and nearly 644,000 jobs in 2023, and that higher ethanol blends and biodiesel have cut pump prices and replaced portions of gasoline and diesel nationwide.
