Sponsored By: Senator Hirono, Mazie K. [D-HI]
Introduced
Summary
This resolution would commemorate the 50-year anniversary of large-scale Southeast Asian refugee resettlement and honor the sacrifices and contributions of Southeast Asian Americans. It would note 1975 anniversaries such as the fall of Saigon and the Khmer Rouge's rule, record that the United States accepted more than 1.2 million Southeast Asian refugees while war and genocide displaced over 3 million people, acknowledge high rates of trauma and language barriers in these communities, and urge pursuing education and health opportunities and affirm commitment to refugees, immigrants, and naturalized citizens.
