Summary

Raise awareness and prevent government imposter scams. This measure designates March 5, 2026, as National Slam the Scam Day to promote education about scams that impersonate Social Security, Medicare, the Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Postal Service, and the IRS. The resolution says hundreds of thousands are targeted each year, FTC data show fraud losses exceeded $12.0 billion in the first three quarters of 2025 with over $700 million from imposter scams, and 1 in 4 Americans report losing money with a median loss of $500. It notes older adults are hit hardest, including a more-than-four-fold rise since 2020 in reports of losses of $10,000 or more and more than 12,685 complaints to the Senate Special Committee on Aging fraud hotline since 2013.
