A resolution expressing support for the designation of July 2026 as "National Sarcoma Awareness Month".

Sponsored By: Senator Johnson, Ron [R-WI]

Passed Senate

Summary

Designates July 2026 as National Sarcoma Awareness Month to boost public awareness and encourage earlier, more accurate diagnosis and treatment. Sarcoma is a rare cancer of bone and connective tissues that can arise almost anywhere in the body, including nerves, muscles, joints, fat, and blood vessels. About 18,000 people are diagnosed each year in the United States and roughly 7,600 die annually, while more than 236,000 people live with sarcoma at any time. It makes up about 1 percent of adult cancers and 21 percent of childhood cancers. There are over 100 subtypes, the causes are not well understood, and treatment can include surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy. Sarcoma is often misdiagnosed and underreported.
