A resolution requesting information on Venezuela's human rights practices pursuant to section 502B(c) of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961.
Sponsored By: Senator Schiff, Adam B. [D-CA]
Introduced
Summary
Requires the Secretary of State to produce a detailed report on alleged Venezuelan human rights abuses and on whether U.S. security assistance has been linked to repression. The resolution would require that report within 30 days to the Senate Foreign Relations and House Foreign Affairs Committees and direct the Secretary to prepare it in coordination with the Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor and the State Department Office of the Legal Adviser. It specifies documentation of alleged violations from January 10, 2025 through events after January 3, 2026, named-official assessments including Delcy Rodriguez, Diosdado Cabello, Gustavo Enrique Gonzalez Lopez, and Vladimir Padrino Lopez, and evaluations of whether U.S. security aid facilitated repression, the Feb 19, 2026 Amnesty Law's effect on political prisoners, prison conditions at El Helicoide, Rodeo I, Rodeo II, and INJUBA, the denial of Maria Corina Machado's re-entry, and whether citizens were deprived of presidential election rights tied to the acting presidency.
