La Paz County buys federal land
This bill would direct the Secretary of the Interior to convey about 3,400 acres of BLM land in La Paz County, Arizona. The land would go to La Paz County. The area is shown on the "BLM Arizona--La Paz County Land Conveyance Map" dated June 29, 2023. The County would pay the land's fair market value. Appraisals would follow federal appraisal standards. The County would also pay all conveyance costs, including surveys, appraisals, and administrative expenses. Sale proceeds would go into the Federal Land Disposal Account and be used under the Federal Land Transaction Facilitation Act. The land would be withdrawn from U.S. mining and mineral leasing laws. The Secretary could exclude lands with significant cultural, environmental, wildlife, or recreation resources. The County and any future owner would need to avoid disturbing Tribal artifacts, minimize impacts if artifacts are found, and coordinate with the Colorado River Indian Tribes Tribal Historic Preservation Office. Tribal representatives would be allowed to rebury unearthed artifacts at or near where they were discovered.
