Summary
Requires airlines to provide prompt, multi-channel passenger notice when delays are caused by maintenance or crew-rest shortages and no replacement aircraft or crew is available. The bill would require carriers to give an estimated delay time or, if no estimate is immediately available, promptly say so and then update passengers as soon as an estimate exists.
Show full summary
- Travelers: Affected passengers would get either an estimated delay length or a quick message that no estimate is available yet, followed by an updated estimate when it is known.
- Airlines: Carriers would have to notify via three channels: airport public address announcements, gate display boards, and direct messages by text, email, or the carrier’s mobile app.
- Department of Transportation: The Secretary of Transportation would be charged with issuing and enforcing the notice requirements through a new Section 41730 in federal law, plus a clerical update to the chapter index.

Faster airline delay notices for passengers
Airlines would have to quickly tell passengers about certain delays. This applies when a delay is due to maintenance or crew rest and no backup plane or crew is available. Airlines would have to give an estimated wait time right away, or say no estimate yet and update as soon as they have one. Notices would go out by airport speakers, on the gate display boards, and by text, email, and the airline app, as applicable. If enacted, this would take effect upon enactment.
