Bill Overview
Analyzed Economic Effects
2 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.
Air Force to keep buying advanced fighters
The Air Force would have to keep buying at least one advanced fighter model. This would continue until the Secretary certifies to Congress that every Air Combat Command Fighter Wing has replaced older jets. Replacements would start with squadrons that deploy at least 30% of the time. The Secretary could sign new contracts or add to current ones to meet this. The bill would define which jets count (F-35, F-15EX, F-16 Block 70/72, F-47, and future variants) and which wings are covered.
GAO review of fighter buying progress
GAO would review advanced fighter procurement and the challenges the Air Force faces. GAO must brief Congress within one year after enactment. A final GAO report would be due within 30 days after that briefing. The Air Force must send an initial report within 180 days after the GAO final report and then report each year on fixes and replacement progress.
