Reproductive rights in U.S. country reports
This bill would add reproductive rights to the State Department’s annual human rights reports for each country. The reports would cover access to contraception and family planning information; pregnancy and childbirth care free from violence and discrimination; prevention and treatment of STIs and reproductive cancers; and abortion and post‑abortion care policies, including any criminalization of pregnancy outcomes. They would include pregnancy‑related injury and death rates, including from unsafe abortion; discrimination, coercion, and abuse in health settings (including against LGBTQI+ people and people with disabilities) and how governments respond. They would show what share of people ages 15 to 49 have their family‑planning needs met with modern methods, barriers or denials, and disparities by race, ethnicity, indigenous status, language, religion, age, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, and other identities. The bill would also require officials to consult U.S. and multilateral experts, local groups in each country, and relevant U.S. agencies when preparing these reports.
