Faster license transfer for veterans and spouses

If enacted, a veteran or spouse who moves to a new state within 36 months of the DD214 discharge date would have their covered license treated as valid for that state’s scope of practice. You would need to apply to the new state board with the required papers: DD214; for spouses, a marriage certificate and discharge orders naming the spouse; plus a notarized affidavit. If the board cannot finish recognition within 30 days after getting your application, it would have to issue a temporary license with the same rights and duties as a permanent one. This could help you keep working and earning sooner after a move.

Who qualifies and checks for veteran licenses

If enacted, a covered license would need to be in good standing, not revoked, not under investigation, and not surrendered while under investigation. A veteran would need an honorable discharge shown on DD214; discharge or release would include retirement and completion of service. A spouse would count only if named on the discharge orders. After you apply, the state board may run a background check before recognition or a temporary license. The bill also defines license, licensing authority, and scope of practice.
