Ban on Officials Trading Prediction Markets

This bill would prohibit covered federal officials from knowingly buying, selling, or exchanging prediction market contracts tied to government policy, government action, or political outcomes. A covered individual would include elected Federal officials, House or Senate employees, political appointees, and Executive agency employees (per 5 U.S.C. 105). The ban would apply when the person has material nonpublic information, or could reasonably obtain such information while doing official duties. Prediction market contracts would mean interstate-market contracts or derivatives tied to the occurrence or non‑occurrence of a future event. If enacted, the prohibition would take effect upon enactment.
