Expands access to tenant-based rental assistance for current and former foster youth. More housing help for foster youth
If enacted, current and former foster youth would have 180 days after leaving foster care to apply for HUD Section 8(x) rental help, up from 90 days. If enacted, the bill would remove the rule that the youth had to be homeless or at risk at age 16 or older to qualify. If enacted, Education and Training Voucher amounts under section 477(i) of the Social Security Act would not count as income for HUD housing calculations. If enacted, HUD and HHS would coordinate to modernize access to housing help and HUD would update guidance and notices, using amounts available for the Section 8(x) program.
